I’ve missed knitting like a lost limb, and life even more.

[...] this past week has marked my return to the World of the Living, as it were. I’m entering the Big Girl world once and for all, and I’ve cut myself free from the job and the people I let get to me. I’m moving forward again, and in an almost amusing validation of my “recovery” my mind all but automatically snapped to knitting.

So it begins once again

What you don’t see is that Google is curled up on top of my newly-cleaned and trying-to-dry sweater, effectively covering it with more cat hair than I just washed off of it.

Alas, I love that little beast.

Sometime around the release of the Chamber of Secrets movie I found myself convinced that what I needed very badly was a Gryffindor scarf. I’m not entirely sure why—it was one of those nasty, nagging needs that simply is. And I didn’t just want any old Gryffindor scarf, I wanted one exactly like the ones in the film. So I did some poking around on the internet and stumbled upon knit.atypically.net, wherein I aquired a painstakingly exact pattern for the very scarf I so desired.

It was love! It was destiny! But alas, earwax! It was knit.

Obviously this was a problem, and it needed fixing. So I headed to that 24hr repository of problem-fixing goods: Walmart. There I purchased an obnoxious book/kit combo titled something to the effect of “I Taught Myself to Knit!”, and the pattern-suggested yardage of yarn in the appropriate house colors.

After a few days of intense practice, the realization that I would need to learn to knit in the round, and the online ordering and arrival of one 8″ circular needle….I was ready.

And some 50,000+ stitches later, I was offically past the point of no return: I was a knitter, tried, true, and really damn good at stockinette stitch.

So you see, it all really does boil down to Potter.

Now, my earliest knitting endeavors come to fruit, as presented in a craftster post made some years back. (The pictures themselves were taken a few years after the scarves were completed)

Scotch, Frankenlambie (formerly “Lambie”—that is, until Scotch tore off his ears and ate half the stuffing in his head. I stitched him back up with dark thread and alas, it’s quite obvious he’s had quite the messy labotomy), and my first knitting project ever (some 3 years old)—the Sorcerer’s Stone/Chamber of Secrets scarf, made with nasty Red Heart yarn.

Scotch and the Prisoner of Azkaban/Goblet of Fire scarf (plus my brother’s lower half in the background). Yarn: Lion Brand Jiffy. This one is about 1.5-2 years old.

To exhibit the length of this darn thing. 7ft+ .These scarves are noticably longer on the HP kids, hanging to their thighs when tied once around their necks. I wanted to make mine in proportion, masochist that I am.

No doggies or Frankenlambies were injured in the making of this post. In fact, Ms. Scotch was rewarded royally for her beauty (and patience) with lots of kisses. Frankenlambie, well…nothing much has mattered to him since the labotomy.
